The K-12 Archives Education Institute – Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York – Annual Event

The K-12 Archives Education Institute (AEI) of the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York is a recurring program sponsored by ART, and is the culminating event for the annual New York Archives Week. The AEI is designed to bring together 35 local K-12 educators and archivists to discuss strategies for teaching with primary source materials, drawing from the rich collections of ART member repositories and other metropolitan area archives, museums, and libraries. A different theme is selected every year, and archivists and other participants provide documents and other materials that address the theme.

The AEI features panel discussions with guest speakers and collaborative group exercises that provide an opportunity to demonstrate how archives can become teachable documents and apply directly to Common Core State Standards. Questions and activities are developed resulting in lesson plans that can be brought back to the classroom.
