WEBINAR: Community Call

February 29 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

TPS and IOC-TPS are excited to announce the reestablishment of Community Calls events, an informal, virtual discussion group. The first call will be focused on how to be a professional in a hostile work environment, ideas for coping and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and how to handle the emotional labor placed upon us.

The community call will take place via Zoom on Thursday, February 29th from 12:30-1:30 CST.  https://vanderbilt.zoom.us/j/97706243882

There are a variety of ways that environments can be hostile: state-wise, university, library administration, managers, coworkers, individuals etc. What are the different ways people can experience hostility? Bring your ideas and suggestions of how to cope and to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Institutions facilitate both beneficial work, as well as structural/societal power dynamics; how do we balance these in our work? How do we handle the emotional labor, time restraints, and stretching job responsibilities? How can we holistically alter the existing idea of “doing more with less,” “resiliency,” and “enforced/encouraged grit” in order to be better for ourselves and for our future colleagues?

These articles may provide a basis of conversation and attendees are encouraged to read them in advance of the community call.
